What has got me scratching my head, is even after 1500 or so "hits' I have had only one genuine enquiry and that was from interstate.
I can assure you that the boat is ready for any purchaser to just hop on board and sail off to where-ever .... Tahiti ... the Mediteranian.....or Around the World.
Just before retiring in 2003, my wife and I purchased "Wathara IV'" at Hastings in Victoria. We reverted back to" Wathara" [ its original name] it was previously "Sea Gypsy." After an additional fit-out we then spent several memorable years sailing right around Australia including Tasmania.
'Wathara", designed by the late Joe Adams, is a round bildge, steel,centre cockpit shoal draft,swing keel, cutter rigged sloop, professionally built by steelcraft [Brisbane] in 1978.The hull is made from corten steel. The vessel is absolutey sound and in excellent structual condition.
The insurance survey confirms this point. [Fully insured with Club Marine for $56k ]
The hull at first and even second glance looks like it is made of fibre -glass
The swing keel sits within a 316 S/S centre case surrounded by 6,000lb. of lead within the moderately long, external keel.The yacht draws just over 1m. with the board up and 2m. with it down.The centre board function is purely for lateral stability [i.e.stop it going sideways when sailing to windward]
The cabin has a dozen opening port holes and five hatches which greatly assisted in making a Darwin "wet" almost bearable.
"Wathara " is Australian registered and I have just paid the S.A rego.for the next year.
My reason for selling - apart from getting a bit long in the tooth- is that I am building a steam engine to power a 26ft yacht that I am in the process of restoring, and I simply need the cash.
Do what we did. We had no plan; so we just went for it and "Wathara "took us there.
The yacht is moored at Garden Island Y.C. in Port Adelaide.
